RCY RIDE
REPORT
6th Annual George Levenson
Memorial Ride
Sycamore Canyon
Sunday
01-20-2008
The 6th annual George Levenson
Memorial MTB Ride took place on a bitterly cold Sunday morning at the end of
Wendy Drive in Newbury Park. Joe, Jamshyd, Rod and Rob shivered their way
out of their warm vehicles to pedal into Sycamore Canyon. We tipped
our helmets to George at his bench, vowing to spend more time on the return
trip. We then descended the Asphalt Bitch, fingers and toes burning
with cold as we cut thru the wind. When we pedaled thru the shady
canyon bottom, temperatures were in the 20's and so we decided to take the right
fork and climb the pavement towards the the water tower and the
sun.
Then it was down Wood Canyon
and then up the Guadalasca Trail where we generated enough heat to finally strip
off a layer or two. Eventually we reached the area near the top of Hell
Hill ready to descend the always thrilling section of the BackBone Trail called
the Wood Canyon View Trail.

cold?

down the trail
At the bottom of the trail we
headed back towards the cars. First pedaling up the main Sycamore Canyon,
then over to the Two Foxes Trail, then the (I think) Su Nombre Trail, and
finally a little exploration and adventure on the right fork of the Hidden Pond
Trail which brought us close to the wooden bridge at the bottom of the Asphalt
Bitch climb.
Rob, Joe, Jamshyd
and Rod pay our respects to George at his bench
In spite of arm twisting, Joe
headed for home, while the 3 remaining riders headed over to our traditional
water hole out in these parts--The Side Street Cafe--for great food, views, and
yappin'.
Have a great
week!
