RCY RIDE REPORT
Bell Canyon & Ahmanson Ranch
SuperBowl Sunday
02-04-07 Eight...Who do we appreciate?
Bears? Colts? RCYs?

Forget about the gridIron....go for the gridAluminum, the gridTitanium.  Super Bowl Sunday notwithstanding, a touchdown and an extra point worth of riders showed up for Sunday's mountainbike ride near the entrance to Bell Canyon--Dean, Rod, Jamshyd, Joe, DavidR, Gary, and me.  We headed over to Ahmanson Ranch, pedaling over hill and dale, enjoying the cool morning air with clear blue skies above.

As the weather warmed we peeled off layers.  Here we pose for a group photo at the top of a climb.

When we reached the Las Virgenes Fireroad we decided to head up the road to the single track that would take us near the top of Bell Canyon.  The end of the short singletrack has a very steep section that most of us attemted to ride.

Rod starts to pedal up the steep incline while Jamshyd prepares his steed

"Bones" Rod grins and pushes up the steep, rocky climb
(note to Rod: Is your right foot/leg actually still on the pedal?)

A series of Jamshyd climbing the steep grade

Gary on his 42nd & 43rd attempts ;>)

After some successes and failures at climbing we crossed the street (minus Joe who left us at this point to head for home) and took a short jog over to a steep downhill trail, for after all, what goes up must come down.

Rod descends the loose and rocky trail

David bombs down the steep trail

Is Dean about to crash?
(note to Dean: Is your right foot/leg actually still on the pedal?)

The bottom of the trail brought us to pavement & Bell Canyon Boulevard which we took down to another street that we then climbed....a seemingly vertical climb.  The top of this street brought us to a dirt overlook which we then took over to Castle Peak.

We left our bikes when the trail got too tough and hiked to the top

Gary and Jamshyd lounging near the top of the peak

Gathering up our bikes we descended Castle Peak back to Ahmanson Ranch and then back to our cars.  Some refreshments at a local watering hole ended the morning; having just participated in a major sporting event, we manly men headed back for the mandatory viewing of that minor annual pigskin sporting event.

Another year chaulked up,

Robco Baggins
