2 RCY RIDE REPORTS

Day #1:
Chesebro Canyon
Saturday
02-17-07

Not much to say about Saturday's ride except that it was a simply gorgeous day in Chesebro.  Sunny, blue, warm skies accompanied the five riders who showed up to pedal.  Tal, Nelson, Dean, Jamshyd and I headed over to the Sulfur Springs Trail for a pleasant meander under surprisingly warm temperatures for this time of year.  Arriving at Shepherds Flat we decided to head over to Palo Comado via the singletrack that was in excellent shape....hardpacked, yet challenging.

[See Tal or me and I bet we can give you a special deal :o) ]

When we arrived at the Palo Overlook we decided to do the "Aaronson Loop"--ride down the Bones Trail and then ride back up the fireroad to the Overlook again.

Nelson took some photos of me riding the trail....I put them together for a composite

From the Palo Comado Overlook we headed on back to Shepherds Flat and then down Sulfur Springs Trail to the cars.  While Nelson had to head for home, the remaining four of us headed on over to The Corner Bakery at The Calabasas Commons for some fine dining and chat.

Day #2:
Bulldog @ Malibu Creek State Park
Sunday
02-18-07

We had 8 riders arrive for Sunday's MTB ride at Malibu Creek State Park.  The day was much cooler than yesterday but that was welcome news because we would be climbing the tough Bulldog Motorway.

At the bottom of Bulldog, the group poses:
Mitch, DavidR flexing, Reuben, Dean's head protruding from Reuben, Matthew, RogerJ, and 'Bones' Rod

We climbed the tough 3.4 mile, almost 1700 feet of elevation gain, fireroad, grinning all the way.....NOT!  At the top, after being refueled by The Appleman, we headed down to the Corral Canyon parking lot and then on to the Mini-Moab section that would bring us to The Elevator.

Multiple Matthews descend the last steep slickrock section of "Mini-Moab"

Likewise, 3 Rods descend

Roger took some photos of me, Rob, descending the SlickRock

After SlickRock it was on to The Elevator....

At the bottom of The Elevator we arrived at Tapia State Park where we then took the Tapia Spur Trail back to Malibu Creek State Park.  Click on the link: http://rcy.wwtrails.org/Video/TapiaSpur.AVI to see a very short video of Roger following Matthew at the end of the Spur Trail.

As we ended our ride by pedaling the pavement in Malibu Creek State Park we came across a herd of deer in an open meadow.  I tried to zoom in.....

Back at the cars, 6 of us headed on over to the Santa Fe Cafe for eats and talk to end a great day of mountain biking.

Have a great week,

Robco Baggins
