Los Robles & Rain
Saturday
02-18-06

Only George, Jamshyd and I arrived at the East Coast Bagel Co. parking lot for Saturday's ride.  Although there had been some rain the previous evening, today's sky looked pretty good when we started the ride in spite of cold air temperatures.  Confident, off we headed for the Los Robles Trail.  As we rode the fireroad prior to Moorpark Road, we were met by Andy and Reuben who had started from Moorpark Rd.  So it was 5 of us who climbed to the top of the Los Robles switchbacks.

Clouds begin to build....looking southeast

Looking northwest....dark clouds suddenly roll in

From the top of the switchbacks we started pedaling towards the bench at the top of Rosewood.  About 3/4 of the way there it started to drizzle lightly.  The skies really darkened quickly and suddenly the drizzle turned to showers.  Although we considered turning back, we decided it would be quicker to head down Rosewood Trail.  By the time we got to the bottom it was raining pretty good.  At this point we lost Andy who apparently stayed more to the dirt while we took the pavement back to Moorpark Road.  Looking back, a little blue sky was to be seen along with a most beautiful rainbow....I really wanted to take a photo but did not want to take my camera out while the rain continued down.

Leaving Reuben at his car at Moorpark Road to wait for Andy to return, we continued our pedal back to our cars at East Coast Bagel; although still very cold, the rain began to let up.  When we hit the corner of Moorpark Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard we stopped at the Denny's in order to try and warm our wet and cold bodies.  It felt good inside the restaurant but it was a questionable decision--it just made it all that much harder to go back out into the cold for the final leg home.

Back at the cars, George, Jamshyd and I had coffee and a little food at East Coast Bagel, trying to warm and dry our cold, wet bodies before the drive home.

Finally dry,

Robco Baggins
