RCY Ride Report
Chesebro & Palo Comado Canyons
Saturday
04-08-06

Last Saturday morning found 6 RCY members meet at the Chesebro parking lot.  RogerJ, Ali, Dean, SteveW, Greg and Robco were the participants.  With the recent rains, there was some trepidation that traditionally muddy Chesebro would live up to her reputation.  But surprisingly the first couple of miles into the main Chesebro Canyon were in good shape and little mud was to be found.  The wetter spots were actually to be found further up the canyon.  Although not a lot of mud, there were several stream crossings that were quite wet.  One proved rather deep for the shortest among us.

A giant among men, Uncle Louie had better luck at the crossing--
Note also the new green growth arising out of the autumnal charred flora

At Shepherds Flat we turned west and headed on The Connector Trail over towards the Palo Comado overlook.

Just before reaching the Palo Comado Overlook, Ali managed to entangle a branch in his rear spokes with the end result being a snapped rear derailleur hanger--a situation recently experienced by me.  Thus we took some time out while Ali tied up his non-functioning rear derailleur and broke his chain in order to make his bike a "single speed."

We all decided to accompany Single-Speed Ali back down the Palo Comado Fireroad to our vehicles.  The ride was thus a little bit shortened, but that only allowed 4 of us--Dean, Greg, Steve and me--to lengthen our eating pleasure at the Corner Bakery.

Have a great rest of the week.
