Hidden Meadow
Trail
Saturday
05-27-06
6 people (+ a mystery guest
who did not ride with us) showed up at the parking lot for Saturday's
ride--including Andy who arrived barefoot and pregnant....well, at least
barefoot. Assured that people had shown up for the ride, Andy drove
back home to put on his bike gear (including cleated shoes) and met the rest of
us--Matthew, Joe, George, Jamshyd and me--at the Hidden Meadow Trailhead.
We did the usual climb over the Hidden Meadow Trail (meeting Mariel Hemingway
walking her dog "team"), taking the street over to the climb up Albertson
Fireroad, splitting off to the left for the climb to the top of the singletrack
where we paused for a photo.
Jamshyd (wearing my
jersey), Robco (wearing Jamshyd's jersey), Andy, Matthew, George, and
Joe
From there it was down the fun
singletrack....
George enjoying
a sweeping turn
Joe on the same
curve
And here are a few
photos of yellow flowers that filled the bottom of the
singletrack
At the end of the
singletrack we turned left, climbing up, then down and over to the top of
the Long Valley Trail which took us down to Simi Valley. Joe left us here,
heading back home, while the remaining 5 of us crossed the pavement to start the
climb along the ridge whose name I know not. At the end of the ridge we
crossed the street and did a little exploration of the hills south of Simi,
eventually hike-a-biking up a steep trail that ended at a chain link fence
with a serious looking "NO TRESPASSING" sign. So we reluctantly
turned around and retraced our path back to the street and to the point where
Joe had left us. From here we pedaled back over towards Lang
Ranch.
Here is Andy
screaming down the trail
And here is a shot
of Jamshyd going so fast that not only did the camera not catch him but he lost
his head
And here is The
Appleman Matthew (having lightened his load by feeding us his apples and
caramel) roaring down the road
When we reached the street we
headed back on the pavement, admiring the occasional
'well-dressed' jogger, arriving back at the parking lot with over 20 miles
logged. Matthew, Jamshyd and I went over to the BeanScene for some coffee
and food, and also were joined there by the previously mentioned mystery
guest--Reuben. Reuben had seen Jamshyd in the parking lot prior to our
ride, informing him that he would not be riding with us but rather with another
individual at Sycamore Canyon. But having finished his Sycamore
ride, he honored us with his presence as we were finishing up our
meal. Having replaced some calories, we all headed for homes and families
on this first day of the 3-day Memorial Day weekend.
Humbly,
Robco Baggins
