RCY RIDE
REPORT
Mt. Pinos
Saturday
06-10-06
We had 6 participants for
Saturday's climb and eventual descent of glorious Mt. Pinos. The weather
could not have been more cooperative. Not too hot, not too cold, sunny
blue skies. Rod, Jamshyd, George and I caravaned up highway 5, meeting
Reuben and friend Rick at the dirt parking lot at the Y-junction. Having
hit some traffic delays due to road construction, etc., we got a late
start....about 9 a.m.
A short pedal
brought us to the McGill Trailhead for the 8 mile, mostly singletrack
climb
As the above sign indicated,
we reached the McGill Campground about 1/2 way into the ride.
At the McGill
Campground intersection, Jamshyd, George, Rod, and Rob
pose.
[George was not in
this photo because he took it, but since he is a hand surgeon, I
"digitally" inserted him.]

Reuben, and Rick
After a brief rest and some
refueling, it was time to head back down the 8800 foot mountain top.
Always a thrilling ride, we still wanted to maintain trail etiquette. That
included obeying trail signs that give the rules for yielding the right-of-way:
Hikers are to yield to horses, mountain bikers are to yield the
right-of-way to both hikers and horses. And of course, everybody yields
the right-of-way to The King.....
Fast and furious we descended
the hill. Rutted fireroad, singletrack twisting through pine forest,
jumps and switchbacks.....all provided an E-ticket ride to the bottom. It
doesn't get any better.

At rides end, George, Rod,
Jamshyd and I headed over to Big John's in Frazier Park for a delightful lunch
served by our delightful waitress Samantha whom you previously saw in Rod's
earlier camera phone posting.
Have a great
week.
Robco Baggins
