TWO REPORTS IN ONE BY DR. J.

Saturday June 16, 2007

Since our resident reporter UL and his side kick Robco Baggins are indisposed, the perhaps unenviable task of reporting on the ride today seems to fall on the shortest straw. In absence of a short straw, I have been appointed by the His Royal Lowness to write this brief description.
As usual, I woke up at 5:45 am to walk my dog. I don't actually have a real dog, but I do walk my own dog, if you can catch my drift. (Or may be you want to stay clear of it).

Freshly brewed coffee, nice bowel of cereal, some frictional gonadal contact, and I was ready to go. But not yet. The coffee has that special effect on me that many would kill for.

Since the ride was to begin just two miles from my home, I decided to ride there. The air was fresh and brisk and the fog moist and soft. As I approached the ride start, I felt a refreshing breeze through my hair....which suddenly made me feel stupid and old. Yes.. you guessed it.. I had pulled a Greg. I had forgotten my helmet. With my immense luck always looming above (some call it their Guardian Angel) Dean and Pam pulled up just then....believe it or not, actually EARLY!!!! Dean wasted not a moment to point out my stupidity and early old-timer's disease manifestation: my unhelmeted head. Fortunately, he was willing to drive me to my house to get the skull saver while Pam spent a few intimate moments with the steed I hold between my legs......that's right, my full suspension trusty, Titanium 3.5/2 Auminium/Vanadium mountain bike is what I am talking about.
George and Joe and Etan the great world traveler and Backpacker Par Excellance rounded out the group. Amazingly, we started and finished the bike all together despite several attempts to pull an RCY. Up into Ahmanson we went and with Etan's encouragement, we visited the interesting Rock Caves just west of Vanowen park entrance. Except for Joe and Pam, the rest of us climbed up into the caves and to the top and enjoyed a magnificent view of the area. Then the group, not knowing any better, followed me up the single track that ends up in Bell Canyon. This is where Pam and Dean tried to follow a short cut I pointed out to them, but soon rejoined us because they were soon dissuaded by a minor but notable problem of there being no actual trail to follow.

From the Bell Canyon Hill Trail, a fast downhill and we were quickly back at the fire road down to cars....2 hours and 15 minutes and 15 miles later. Pam, Dean, Etan and I spent another hour at Santa Fe Cafe, enjoying some not so authentic but excellent Mexican food.
It was a great ride on a relatively cool day for June and an extremely agreeable company because everybody agreed with me the whole time.
Respectfully submitted:

Father's Day June 17, 2007  Chesboro  By the DOCTOR of Poetry himself Dr. J.

Matthew, Reuben, George, Joe, Mitch, Rod, Yoni, Andy, Dean, and Me
That makes ten who showed up for father's day ride at Chesebro you see

We rode and rode and rode some more
hither, there, back and fore

We ate we drank and bonded as men are wont to do
In the now mostly brown or barren Chesebro we flew

Of mechanicals I must speak
A chain or two we had to tweak

But all paled when compared to Reuben's plight
I must admit, it was a frightful sight

His chain-stay cracked and him demoralized and happiness lacked
With his tail between his legs and angered welled full within he packed
Himself and his bike and with barely a bark
He left walking out of the park

We went down the broken spoke with haste, skill and speed
Our steeds grasped tight in between our muscular legs we completed this masterly deed

And up the gas pipe we went but first side tracked by Jamshyd's folly
A road to nowhere then back to the fire road, it was jolly

It was father's day you see so we all had to head home
Our lease expired no permission to roam

I wish you all a happy father's day my friends
With your friends be generous, with enemies make amends

Jamshyd
