RCY RIDE REPORT
Sullivan Canyon via Caballero Canyon
Saturday
07-08-06

8 people showed up for Saturday's ride up Caballero Canyon, although a couple of those trickled in late and one had to leave early.  Beginning at close to the 7:30 start time were George, Joe, Andy, Reuben, GaryS, and me.  About half way up Caballero we were caught by a strong GregA.  And then after our left turn at dirt Mulholland, we were soon joined by super Ali who had pedaled super fast up the hill to catch us.  Thus it was eight who headed towards the entrance to the Sullivan Canyon downhill.  But we couldn't maintain that number 8 as here we lost Gary who had to get back for either a power breakfast or some morning delight or some such activity.

The ride down Sullivan Canyon seemed especially fun to me today.  The temperature in the canyon was cool, the singletrack first rate.  Some photos from the day....

Although the hillsides are turning brown in the summer heat, Sullivan Canyon provides a lush background for George

Short Robco zipping across a Sullivan watercrossing at the "shallowest" point possible....
don't want to drown [or get the bike too wet] ;o)

Andy is taller so he can cross at a deeper point at the same crossing

I took some artistic liberty to create this pointillistic view of Joe at the watercrossing

At the bottom of Sullivan we decided to take advantage of the cool shade and climb back up.  The weather cooperated until the last half mile or so when the steep climb out of Sullivan occurs in the full sun.   Fortunately there was a slight breeze to ease our way.

Back at dirt Mulholland we headed west for the top of Caballero Canyon.  But not before a few of us took the always exciting and challenging Upper Bent Arrow/Red Car Trail.

Here is Greg exiting the Red Car Trail at dirt Mulholland.  This is also Greg between
2 crashes....one on Red Car and one going down Caballero Canyon.

In spite of Greg's scrapes and bruises, he joined Andy, Reuben and me for some after ride calories at a local shopping area before we all headed for home.

Have a great week.
