RCY RIDE REPORT
Los Robles Flat Tire--A Trail Tale
Sunday
08-13-06

Actually, there is not much for me to say about Sunday's ride.  Six riders--Joe, George, Andy, Rod, Jamshyd, and me Robco--began riding from Moorpark Road towards the Los Robles switchbacks when we were joined by Reuben and Rick who were apparently on their own ride.  But until the Rosewood Bench, the eight of us stayed together.  The weather was pleasantly warm, skies were clear blue--a beautiful August morning for a ride.

After a break at the Rosewood Bench, Reuben and Rick departed from us by going down Rosewood.  The rest of us headed west to continue on the Los Robles Trail;  but Joe, needing to get home early, left us about 100 feet into the trail, deciding to also head down Rosewood.  Thus it was only 5 of us who headed towards trail end at Portrero Road.  Having not taken any photos up to this point, Andy suggested I ride ahead to set up for some action trail shots.  But, riding ahead, I got a flat tire and had to stop to repair it.  So when the group caught up with me, Rod took my camera and proceeded to make a special documentary on trail side repair.

Andy and George look on as I gather up my tools

Jamshyd comes over to assist

Everyone lends a hand: George supervises, Andy holds the front wheel,
Jamshyd trims his fingernails, and Robco tries to pump up a tube

Robco discovers that his pump appears to be broken and looks for a missing part in his pack

Andy models the broken pump

Robco makes one last attempt at saving his injured pump

Waaaaaaahhhhhh! The pump is dead.

George lends his pump to inflate the tire

After this most exciting break in our ride, we continued on to the end of the Los Robles Trail.  Near the end we did a little exploration of a ridge top trail that dropped us onto Portrero Road further west of the Los Robles terminus.  But not before Jamshyd entered a gate onto private property where we waited for him to be shot by an irritated property owner.  But having escaped, Jamshyd and the rest of us headed towards Wendy Drive and then back on Lynn Road which brought us back onto the dirt for a final fling on the whoop-de-doos.

The five of us then drove back over to the East Coast Bagel parking lot for some lunch at The Sea Casa/East Coast Bagel.  And for dessert, Andy drove us all over to view a fascinating local indoor "climbing wall" facility where Jamshyd and I marveled at how Andy could touch the top of the walls on just his tippy toes.

Have a great week.

Flatly yours,

Robco Baggins
