RCY RIDE REPORT
Rogers Road
Sunday
09-23-07

An unusual rain storm on Saturday, the last day of Summer, helped wash away the year's sins on the Jewish Day of Atonement, clearing the skies for a beautiful Sunday mountain bike ride on the first day of Fall.  Seven men arrived at the Top of Reseda, ready to pedal up to The Hub and on to Rogers Road.

At The Oak Trees--Mark, Sergio, Joe, Efi, Andy, Matthew and me behind the camera

Efi had honey-do's to attend to and so headed back at this point.  The remaining six of us continued our journey down Rogers Road.

Sunlight filters thru the eucalyptus trees lining the road down to the Polo Fields at Will Rogers State Park

From the Polo Fields we headed down to Sunset Boulevard and up Amalfi Drive for the climb up towards Camp Josepho.

Andy rides on the singletrack that parallels the road to Josepho

While the folks at Camp Josepho provided water at the Sullivan Ridge Firegate for runners, hikers and bikers,
The Appleman Matthew continued his tradition of feeding us apples, bananas, and trailmix!

As we started our long pedal up Sullivan Fireroad, Matthew and I got separated from the main group.  Matthew had earlier in the ride used his excellent engineering skills to figure out how to properly adjust his disc brakes on his new Santa Cruz Blur.  But the cause of a loud squeaky noise eminating incessantly from his new frame eluded him in spite of his obsession to solve it.  We stopped many times trying to lube and/or tighten various bike parts but, alas, to no success.  We also stopped to watch an apparent rescue (or it might have just been practice) below in Sullivan Canyon.

A helicopter hovers near the bottom of Sullivan Canyon while a body is reeled into the chopper

We finally made it back to dirt Mulholland and were greeted with wonderful views of the San Fernando Valley.

Have a great week.
And may your squeaks be few.
