RCY RIDE REPORT
Rod's Annual RCY Sukkah Ride
Ahmanson to Chesebro to Rod's
09-30-07

I've finally digested the feast served by Rod and his lovely wife Charlene after Sunday's Sukkah ride, and so it is time to write a brief report.  Unfortunately I have no photos from under this year's sukkah (I was too exhausted from the ride to push down a shutter button), but let me assure you that all who attended were treated like kings by the gracious Blau's.

Eight riders arrived at the west end of Victory Boulevard to start the ride into Ahmanson Ranch on the last day of September.  Our leader Rod, Andy, Dean, Joe, Jamshyd, Nelson, Eitan, and yours truly began pedaling under beautiful clear blue skies.  We meandered thru the golden fields of Ahmanson finally arriving at the Las Virgenes entrance.  From there we climbed the fireroad that eventually would take us up to Chesebro Ridge Trail.

Eitan spotted this Turkey Buzzard

The bird takes flight

We followed the bird up the road to watch it take flight again

Before this report goes to the birds I'd better return to the trail.  The day was warming as we reached the Chesebro Ridge Fireroad.  The fireroad brought us down to the top of the Little Baleen climb and then some sadist suggested we climb up towards The Baleen Wall and The 3 Hills.

Nelson and Eitan were on tight schedules and had to head for home early

From here it was down to the start of Broken Spoke/Gas Pipe for the great downhill which brought us back to the Las Virgenes Fireroad.  As we descended we met members of The Other Group--Gary, Audrey, Steve, BruceB (on his new Rocky Mountain) plus a couple of others whom I can't remember--my body can barely keep up these days....you expect my mind to function too?

A few more climbs thru Ahmanson and this exhausted rider was thrilled to see Victory Boulevard.  A short drive over to Rod's home where we relaxed, conversed, and feasted under the sukkah.  Matthew (who had done a charity walk earlier) joined us for the festivities.  Again thanks to Charlene and Rod for their graciousness at an event that is becoming an RCY tradition.  Those in attendance cannot wait for next year.....Matthew was even hoping that maybe this was a monthly holiday ;o)

Have a great week!
