RCY Ride Report
Sage Ranch
Rod's Annual Sukkah Ride
Sunday
10-08-06

It was a beautiful Sunday morning that saw 7 riders show up for Rod's Annual Sukkah Ride at the corner of Roscoe and Valley Circle.  All bright eyed and bushy tailed, the 7 headed up the pavement climb that brought us to the dirt with its maze of trails.  On we continued until we came to some new construction that fenced off our usual route.  We thus had to climb up a semi-trail thru the weeds and sage until we came up to Woolsey Canyon Road.  We climbed the pavement of Woolsey, passing the entrance to the old Rocketdyne (now Boeing) property where we picked up a fresh rosy glow.  From there it was into the Sage Ranch property for a couple of round-trips....first counter-clockwise and then clockwise to make sure we hadn't missed anything.

A special thanks to our webmaster and religious leader Rabbi Rod for leading the Sukkah ride

Up on Submarine Rock King Jamshyd dubs Andy Tall Knight of the Short-Legged

After feeding us the ritual apples, Matthew makes his way down the steep trail from Submarine Rock
(I think Matthew was the only one able to climb this loose steep trail UP to the top today...must be all those apples)

After finishing the 2 laps around Sage Ranch we headed back down Woolsey Canyon Road, re-entering the dirt a mile or so down.  Some people [not to mention any names.....like UNCLE LOUIE!] consider this a "trash" ride.   I don't know what they mean.....you just have to look beyond to the golden grasses.

Soon we came upon the section of the ride where we have to rappel/slide/climb down a near vertical wall.   This was Joe's first time doing this and having a slight fear of heights, we had to cajole him down the slope.

The climbing team of Rod, Jamshyd and Andy prepare to heave Joe down the rock

Joe must be enjoying all the attention!
At least he has his tights on right-side-out

Everyone--and bikes--made it down the rock face successfully.  Some more riding and meandering thru the maze of sometimes technical trails brought us back to our cars and then the short drive over to Rod and his wife Charlene's lovely home.  They had prepared a beautiful meal for us in their Sukkah.

Andy provided this photo of Rod serving us this bountiful celebratory meal....
a Catholic, a Moslem and 5 Jews enjoying life together

And here we are fully satiated and ready for our afternoon naps

Thank you, Charlene and Rod, for your hospitality!!!

And to the rest of you, have a good week.
