CORBA Fat Tire Fest @ Lake
Castaic
Sunday
10-12-08
A group of RCYers headed north to Lake Castaic on Sunday
morning, out of range of the smoke from the Marek Fire in the northeast San
Fernando Valley, which still burns fiercely as I write (along
with the new fire in Porter Ranch). Lake Castaic was the new location for
the 21st annual CORBA Fat Tire Festival. Fun was had by all. Poker
ride, exhibitor booths with free swag, raffle, wheelie and limbo and
hillclimb contests, mexican food lunch. A great family event.
The sky above the lake was as clear blue as the lake
itself. The wind was a bit cool and brisk, and at times required a
windbreaker except when we pedaled up our steep climbs.
Although the "advanced" route ended up with mileage of less than 10 miles, we
did have about 1800 feet of climbing. The route was over both fireroad and
singletrack that mostly cut through dry, yellow grass that covered the rolling
hills.

Lake Castaic
Riders pause at
a poker stop to pick up another card.
One of our own RCY
was the BIG winner!!! Guess who?
Matthew, Shah, Rod
and Dean pose at the top of a climb overlooking Castaic
Lake.
Nelson and GaryM(who
was too fast for me to photograph him) were ahead of
us.
Shah tackles a short
climb above the lake
Dean looks out over
the damn of upper Castaic.
We saw a super fire
tanker flying overhead but never saw it dip into the lake.
Rod looks over his
poker hand
Does that big grin
mean Rod was happy with his poker hand?
Matthew huffing and
puffing
And there is Robco
pushing up the hill
Back at the festival
site, the raffle and other festivities get under way
And the winning
poker hand....
4
Aces!!!

Shah display the carbon fiber hardtail frame won by
Matthew
Another winner of
several "Bags of Stuff" was Nelson who always invests heavily in raffle tickets
to support CORBA.
He and Matthew both
won some raffle prizes and made some trades with each other,
and thanks to Nelson
for the cool sleeveless jersey he donated to the Baggins
Trust!
Until next time,
Robco Baggins
