Part I
As the panoramic shot above
illustrates (thanx to Andy for urging me to photograph this scene which
we came across towards ride end), it was a beautiful day at Sycamore
Canyon. Some low clouds and fog hung around at the ride start,
otherwise a cool and sunny day. I'm not sure I remember everyone who
was on this ride, but we can discover who was there as we go thru the
photos.
After coming down the Asphalt Bitch
we took a right at the first fork in the road and then Andy showed us a
new (to me) connector trail that led us to the trail that leads to the
middle of the Sage Trail. Now if that all made sense to you, that's at
least one of us.
Riders on the Trail
Climbing up the Sage Trail brought
us back to the pavement which we then took over to the water tower.
Then down the asphalt for a quick ride thru the Wood Canyon Trail.
Rod speeding thru Wood
Canyon
At the bottom of the Guadalasca
Trail we stopped for some rest, snack, talk, and unsuccessfully
attempted repairs (Matthew had bent teeth on one of his rear cogs).
Various folk milling
around....let me attempt some identification:
From the left: Rod,
Matthew's butt, Jamshyd's helmet, Dean, Joe, new member Russ
(Welcome!!),
some guy not with us
waving, another unknown, DavidR, the front wheel of another unknown
Eventually we started the long climb
up the Guadalasca Trail. We regrouped at the top and headed past the
top of Hell Hill to the start of the Wood Canyon View Trail. Riding
this trail down to the floor of Sycamore Canyon took an E-ticket and
it was worth every cent.

Part II
I left you at the tight
switchback turn near the bottom of Wood Canyon View Trail (which is
part of the Back Bone Trail)....
With Giang close behind,

bent cog teeth, completes the turn
Well, as I review these photos,
including me, I counted about 11 RCYers on this ride....so I'll
stick with that number. At about this point on the main canyon fireroad,
we began to split up into several groups as we headed back to our
origin. Andy, Rod and I took a little more single track (that is
where I shot the 3 photos I turned into the opening title shot) but
we eventually met up with the others for the big climb out of the
canyon on the Black Bitch for something like 20 miles and around
2,300 feet of climbing. A half dozen of us ended up going out for
brunch at the delightful Side Street Cafe to end a great weekend of
mountain biking.
Have a great week!
