Bell Canyon to Ahmanson to Chesebro
Sunday
11.06.05

There were 7 riders who showed for Sunday's adventure that left from the base of Bell Canyon.  Under early overcast skies, Rod served as our guide on a great route that took us first into the recently burned area of Ahmanson Ranch.  Because of the recent rains green grass was already sprouting throughout the blackened landscape.

At the Las Virgenes Fireroad we managed to "accidentally" break up into 3 groups as we wended our way towards the Little Baleen climb that would bring us into Chesebro.  One group went up from the bottom of the climb while the other 2 groups took two different routes on Juan's Singletrack to the LB climb.

Once in Chesebro Canyon we headed up the main Sulfur Springs Trail where we were confronted by a couple of the tough technical climbs.

These are the last photos that I took on Sunday.  When we reached Shepherds Flat we pedaled over to and down the always thrilling GasPipe/BrokenSpoke/Whatever Trail.  When we got to the spot that is my favorite for photos we found the terrain had changed to be virtually unrideable for all of us except Nelson, who, with his newly learned Mammoth downhill skills, was able to clear the far right hand side.  Unfortunately I was not there to capture his daring with my camera....but kudos to Nelson!!!

At the bottom of the trail we turned to the left to climb Las Virgenes FR to the singletrack that took us out to the top of Bell Canyon.  At the pavement we turned left and after about 100 yards turned right onto the steep and loose horse trail that took us down to Bell Canyon Drive.  The street took us back to our cars for another 18 or so miles of great Sunday morning mountain biking.
