Los Robles Trail
(From Moorpark Road!!!)
Sunday
11-13-05

This Sunday the RCYers managed a new feat--to split up into 2 groups even before we started to pedal. Two-thirds of us arrived for the Sunday morning RCY Los Robles Trail mountain bike ride at Moorpark Road!!!  The other one-third of us did not read their assignment (oops....my old teacher habits surfacing), ride posting carefully enough.  Thus (I learned after the ride) Jamshyd, Joe, and Reuben showed up at the parking lot of East Coast Bagel, while John, DavidR, Ali, Matthew, Rod and I showed up at the south end of Moorpark Road.  So after counting the ballots, the majority wins 6-to-3 and so the official ride is as was posted.  And so here are some words and pictures of that official RCY ride.

Starting at Moorpark Road you don't get much of a chance to warm up before the climb up the switchbacks.  The sunny morning was rather cool and we all started with at least windbreakers, but as the climb continued, the blood pumped faster, the sun warmed and so the jackets came off.

Looking up the trail towards the Switchbacks
At the top of the switchbacks we regrouped and headed on towards the intersection near the Los Robles and Rosewood Trails.  Rather than going to The Bench, we took the left fork and continued on the Los Robles Trail where we were met by the 1 STEEP uphill and 2 steep downhills.

Ali and John walk the last section of the super STEEP uphill....no one rode the entire hill today.

We continued on towards the end of the Los Robles Trail, enjoying the wonderful twists and turns of the singletrack.

After a little over 6 miles of singletrack, we stopped just short of the Portrero Road end of the trail, turning around to retrace our tracks.

With some photographic license I offer some digitally altered, interpretive shots of the riders on the way back....

The group waves encouragement to me as I climb to meet them near the intersection with the Rosewood Trail

Arriving back at the cars with 12.5 miles of glorious singletrack on our odometers, 4 of us headed over to the Side Street Cafe for some good food and conversation that ended a wonderful Sunday of mountain biking.

Have a great week!

P.S. According to Jamshyd, the alternate RCY ride from East Coast Bagel did some exploring of trails that headed into Hidden Valley and had almost as much fun as we did Jin spite of the fact that they don't read directions: HGFDCL.........A
