RCY RIDE REPORT
Rogers Road
Sunday
11-19-06

Another beautiful, sunny, warm Southern California day.....in November!!  And 8 of us took advantage of the weather to head from the top of Reseda to the Hub and then on down Rogers Road.  For a brief moment we were 9 as George met us on his up and down and up and down Reseda Boulevard workout for a few minutes before he had to depart in order to shine up his bowling ball for Sunday's tournament.  But once on the dirt it was just Matthew, DavidR, Jamshyd, Andy, Joe, Reuben, Nelson, and I who headed towards The Hub.  We didn't get too far, however, when Andy took a spill on a lip of hard pack and loose dirt.  He banged up his knee and sustained lots of bloody cuts and scrapes, but being the real man that he is, he dusted himself off, cleaned the wounds, applied a little neosporin and ventured on with the rest of us.

Shortly thereafter we all arrived at The Hub.  Then it was a short pedal (it's always a short pedal for me) to the entrance to Rogers Road.  Actually, 3 riders entered via the "old" entrance while the majority rode on to the new entrance.  But our separation was short-lived....we all met and continued on to the Oak Trees.  Then we continued on down Rogers Road with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.  We stopped for a photo at the spot called "Chicken Lookout" or something like that.....anyway it's the spot just overlooking the wooden bridge.

We continued on down the trail, although I caught the group taking in the view at another ridge.

Eventually we arrived at the polo fields of Will Rogers State Park.  We spoke with a runner about trying to find another route back over to Sullivan Ridge, but our exploration yielded no fruit--nor meat nor vegetables--and so we basically returned via the usual route of Sunset to Amalfi to Sullivan Ridge Fireroad.  But as we rode along the dirt road leading to Camp Josepho and the fireroad, David got a flat tire.

A new tube inserted into the tire, we were off again, ready to tackle the long, rather hot climb up Sullivan Fireroad.  There was some discussion about going down the Goat Trail to Sullivan Canyon for a cooler ride up, but it was getting late and we all decided to head back by the more direct route up the fireroad.  After over 3 hours of riding and 20-something miles we arrived back at the cars at the top of Reseda.  Five of us headed over to Greystoke Grill in Tarzana for some good food--great french fries!!!--and fabulous conversation to end a fine November day.

Have a great week.
