Sullivan Canyon 2x2x2

On Thursday and Friday, December 23 & 24, the RCYers met 2 times at the Caballero Canyon trailhead, 2 times there were 5 riders, and 2 times we headed down Sullivan Canyon.

On the usual Thursday morning ride, the five riders who showed up were George, Greg A., Matthew, Sam, and Robco who met on a chilly morning to head up Caballero Canyon.  Upon reaching dirt Mulholland we headed east on the fireroad to the Sullivan Ridge fireroad.  Eventually we headed down Sullivan Canyon for a simply gorgeous ride thru the tree lined canyon.  The sun filtered thru the trees with the sun sometimes directly in our eyes (although I was not bothered what with me not being tall enough to see over the horizon) and the path was littered with golden Sycamore leaves.  It was a truly beautiful cruise down the singletrack.  At the bottom we simply turned around in order to enjoy the scenery on the way back up.  After the ride 4 of us headed to the Greystoke Grill where Santa George graciously bought us all their 2x2x2 breakfast special.  Thanks, Doc!

On Friday morning, Christmas Eve Day, the five riders were Andy, Reuben, Juan (welcome back!), John, and Robco who arrived at the Caballero Canyon trailhead and decided to again do Sullivan Canyon [I had no objections to riding the beautiful trail 2 days in a row plus we were hoping to connect up with Brian D. who was supposed to be riding from the Westside....sorry we never saw you Brian:-( ].  We did vary the ride slightly by taking the Lower Bent Arrow Trail (aka The Red Car Trail) as a detour along dirt Mulholland.  Again the ride down Sullivan was wonderful and we turned around at the bottom and headed right back out.  We even had the company of Sam--a mustachioed old fellow visiting from New Jersey--for part of the ride back up.

I only took my camera on Friday's ride.  4 photos.....

In the middle of the canyon, a tree had fallen across the trail earlier this year.  People had built a new trail around the fallen tree.  However, that apparently was not good enough for some enterprising engineer/gardner with a sharp pair of hedge trimmers.....
