Pre-Christman Day
Ride
Chesebro Canyon
Saturday
12-24-05
A clear cool Saturday morning brought
out a fine rag tag bunch of 11 RCYers ready to face all challenges on dirt:
climbing, descending, and seeking any Amys or Christmans. As we
ventured into the canyon, the day quickly warmed and clothing layers began to be
stripped off. The barren, burned landscape has already begun its regrowth
as splashes of green dot the brown earth.
Riding into the scorched
canyon
Our first climbing challenge occurred
at the usual spot. Some photos:
Nelson focuses on the
difficult climb
The Appleman Matthew
concentrates on riding a new line
And then there were those who
provided additional entertainment.....
Jamshyd tries a one-legged
wheelie as he rides into the side of the mountain
Not to be outdone, Steve
aka Uncle Louie does a foot dab and a bike powerlift as he waltzes up the
climb
With all the climbing antics over,
the group poses at the top of the rocky climb....

& Uzi's son Amir, on his initial RCY ride
Riding to the end of the canyon at
Shepherds Flat, we turned west and headed towards Palo Comado.
Doc Rod pushing thru a
tight turn on the connector trail
Doc Steve out for a
ride with his pet dino
After apples and energy bars and
chit-chat at the Palo Comado overlook, we decided to head down the always
challenging Bones Singletrack.
Nelson, framed by scorched
Laurel branches, leads the pack down the rutted trail on his
hard-tail
Uzi, recently
returned from Israel, enjoying the Southern California
trail
Another shot of Steve as he
heads down Bones
Doc George and his chest
hairs enjoying the warm December weather
At the bottom of Bones, we turned and
headed back up Palo Comado Fireroad. Then we retraced our pedal revs back
to Shepherds Flat. Amazingly we stayed together to head down the
GasPipe/BrokenSpoke/I think its official name might be the Sheep Corral
Trail--one of my favorite singletracks!
Amir rides a technical
section while others watch from above
Dean handles the
technical section
Rod cleans the rocky
section
At the bottom of Sheep Corral we
headed down the Las Virgenes Fireroad until we got to the little singletrack
that took us over to the Little Baleen climb. At this point we started to
break up into several groups as we headed along either the Chesebro Ridge
Trail or the Chesebro Canyon Trail with slight variations on each theme.
But everyone made it back to the cars safely for the trek over to The Corner
Bakery at The Commons where we ran into RobRo who had just finished a road ride
with the BBKings. We all enjoyed some good food and good talk as we
prepared to celebrate Christman Day.
Merry Chriskwanzanukah to
all,
Robco Baggins
