Chesebro Canyon
June 19, 2005
For the second day in a row, 7 men showed up for
RCY weekend ride. Apparently they were the only 7 who were able to
celebrate Fathers Day the way they really wanted.....mountain biking; the
rest celebrated the way their wives and sons and daughters wanted. Just an
assumption on my part.
Andy, DavidR, George, Joe, Mitch, Mario and I
headed up the Modelo Connector Trail on a clear, sunny morning....the last
Sunday this spring. Summer officially starts this Tuesday. We then headed
on over to Palo Comado for a climb up to the China Flat area where we rode
around for awhile before stopping for a group photo.

We then headed back down Palo Comado to the
connector trail that leads over to Shepherd's Flat at the back of Chesebro
Canyon.

After a typical RCY discussion/yenta session, we
decided to head from Shepherd's Flat down the main Chesebro Canyon. The
canyon was in pretty good shape, but there were still a few muddy spots and
water crossings. There was also alot of sulfur in the water in the area
around Sulfur Springs.

white sulfur
Although we started to split up a bit at this
point, most added an additional climb up to the Modelo Trail before
returning to the parking area.

Back at the cars some of us talked for a while
but then returned home for the festivities of the day. We put in about 15+
miles of pedaling to end the weekend. (I forgot to note that Saturday's
Rogers Road ride had about 22 miles)
That's all I got today, Folks. Have a good
Father's Day and a good week.
