And Topo Map

Eleven Manly mountain man and one mountain dog (Boomer) showed up at the pink shopping center.  It was a nice cool morning and it stayed cool for the entire ride (about 62 degrees) thanks to Jamshyd.  The following were present for this Pre-Fourth of July Ride : Joe and George, Warner, Jamshyd, Aaron and David,  Dennis and Boomer, Mitch and his friend, Michael and Myself (is that eleven and a half?)

Jamshyd with his tummy feeling empty and about 5 lbs. lighter, after   running across the street (like a wild dog) to the gas station.  I leave it to your imagination as to what he did in the gas station :o)

We started up the usual route around the Cemetery to the Chumash Trail.   I must be getting old, because this trail seems to be getting steeper, and many of us had to walk many sections.  It is about 1500 feet of elevation in 3 miles to the   main fireroad at the top.

A view of Aaron and Warner walking amongst the burnt tree remnants and the new growth.

David riding up enjoying the beautiful little white flowers and then he yells "I LOVE IT" in Farsi I think :)

This is the junction where we splint off in typical RCY fashion.   Warner kept on going straight and either went down Humming Bird or down the fire road to Santa Susana or was beamed up.  Jamshyd, Myself, Aaron, David and Michael continued straight to do the challenging single track without full body armor.  The rest of the group went down Johnson's trail and then up and around Santa Susana and back to the parking lot.  See the Topo Map for BOTH routes including and elevation profile and mileage for both rides.  Amazingly enough both groups arrived at the parking lot around the same time, go figure?

Boomer and his Master,  they both rode half way down and then back up Johnson's Trail, to avoid riding in the street, very wise choice Boomer :)

Here we are the five (one behind the lens)  brave souls who went down The Humming Bird Trail.  Manly Man

A view of the Ronald Reagan Freeway, while on this great and technical single track.  There were no injuries (David fell only once) and no mechanical problems except for Jamshyd having to tighten his Cranks, he was a little cranky today :)

At the end of the ride Jamshyd, Michael and Myself went for a cup-o-coffee at See you Latte, a charming Coffee house just down the street.  We sat outside under a  huge and beautiful oak tree.
