Labor Day in Chesebro
Part I
09-05-05
On this holiday Monday, pedaling thru
Chesebro was a labor of love. Surprisingly cool temperatures in the
mid-40's at ride start gave way to pleasantly warm clear blue skies. A
large gathering of about 15 riders at one time or another headed out from
the parking area up Chesebro Canyon. Arriving at the first fork in the
road, we took it. Past Sulfur Springs to Shepherd's Flat we cranked. From
there we headed west to the Palo Comado Overlook where a group photo was
taken.
From the left: SteveA, Ali,
Hiding Reuben, Mike, Mario, Wascally SteveW, Devilishly Good Jamshyd, DavidR,
George,
Dean, DaveW, Joe, Matthew.
Kneeling in front is Mitch. Note my odd reflection in the hillside above.
We continued up Palo Comado Canyon,
looped around the China Flats area and eventually most of us returned by the
same route we came in on. (A few split off at various spots and either
shortened or lengthened the ride as they saw fit.)
Rather than action shots, I thought that
today I would focus on portraits of today's riders, attempting to capture
their personalities on the bike. Here they are in first name alphabetical
order.....
Ali
David
Dave
Dean
George
I've almost reached the maximum of 1 megabite that our Yahoo site allows for
emails and so this ends Part I.
Look for more handsome RCYers in Parts II & III
Labor Day in Chesebro
Part II
09-05-05
Continuing with those handsome RCYers,
we start with none other than The King....
Jamshyd
Joe
Mario
The Appleman Matthew
Mike
And now, how about a little break for
some erudite words from our very own Uncle Louie who wrote this description
of today's Chesebro ride....and I quote....
"....Cheseboro does have a way of
restoring one’s belief in goodness and niceness and the
American Way. Cozily nestled in an
out of the way canyon, Cheseboro never disappoints. Wherever you look you
see abundant wild life and stunning, colorful vistas filled with muted
colors and occasional splashes of eye catching red and purple and yellow.
When you breathe in, your lungs taste a potpourri of fragrance found nowhere
else in the city. It refreshes the soul, unburdens the mind and can make an
atheist believe in God."
And with that I end Part II....stay
tuned for Part III
